Thinking Clean can help you plan for a clean life!

Clean thinking is based on a philosophy of cleaning things immediately or on a regular maintenance schedule.  There are many ways that this can be achieved.  Just remember to focus on the benefits of cleaning. Cleaning regularly creates a healthier and safer environment for others and yourself.  It gives you a feeling of pride and of being in control.  It also relieves stress.

  • Think dry, then wet.  When cleaning, always start with the jobs that require dry cleaning methods such as sweeping, vacuuming, and dusting. You can then move on to the wet cleaning methods such as mopping and wiping.

  • Clean from left to right, top to bottom.  Working from top to bottom always provides a better cleaning. Try cleaning upstairs first, and then moving downstairs.  When wiping down dirty surfaces this helps because water can drip into the lower areas you have yet to clean.

  • Immediate Cleaning.  Try to clean sooner than later.  Cleaning small messes right away helps to prevent large messes and clutter.  This will save you time and money.

  • Cleaning safely.  Many cleaning products contain ingredients that can be harmful to your health. Take care of yourself by using protective safety glasses and rubber gloves.  Avoid mixing cleaning products!  Some chemical such as ammonia and chlorine bleach can produce poisonous gases.  Be familiar with the products you are using.  Always work in a well ventilated area when using chemicals.

  • Regular Cleaning!  We have to understand that some areas require cleaning more regularly than others. Kitchens, bedrooms, and bathrooms are areas that require daily routines and procedures for cleaning.  These areas may require cleaning to be done as soon as possible.  While preparing your dinner, try to "clean as go."   While your food is simmering on the stove top or baking in the oven, try to clean.  Time management is the trick to easier and faster cleaning!

  • Being clean is the responsibility of everyone!  Sharing the the value of being clean with your entire household is very important.  As parents, we may feel like it is our sole responsibility to keep and maintain a clean household for our children. Most adults are the sole cleaner of the home.  This leaves a false sense of responsibilty on our children about chores.  They watched as we clean all the big and small messes they make. You have to decide to include them in the household chores.  They may be totally clueless at first, but practice makes perfect.  The earlier they start cleaning, the better.  Try to devise a  plan to make cleaning fun and rewarding for them.  Turn cleaning into a family activity.  In the end, they will learn self-discipline and responsibility.

  • Cleaning block!   Everyone has been guilty of procrastinating on occasion. You just don't know how or when to start decluttering all that clutter.  You know  those big messes where every time you look at them you seem to get more tired.  You put them off and put them off.  As you continue to procrastinate and put them off, the mess seems to continue to pile up! Our cure...devise a cleaning plan. Think of different ways you can organize and sort the area.  Can some of the items be donated?  Do you have time to have a garage sale? Remember someone else's mess can become another's treasure.  Do you have empty boxes, drawers, or closet space for the items you choose to keep. Simply throw things away!
